The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today applauded the New People’s Army (NPA) for its successful raid on the Hinabangan town police headquarters in Samar province.
The NPA fighters easily overpowered the policemen on guard and overran the station. According to initial reports, an M-16 and an M-14 rifle, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, along with other weapons were seized during the raid. A Cafgu element was killed in thefirefight.
“The CPP congratulates the NPA in Samar province for the successful raid,” CPP spokesperson Gregorio “Ka Roger” Rosal said. “This tactical offensive shows the determination and capability of the revolutionary forces to defeat the Arroyo regime’s counterrevolutionary war of terror and push forward the people’s war.”
“The successful raid adds flavor to the people and their revolutionary forces’ celebration of the 39th anniversary of the CPP,” added Rosal.
“The Hinabangan raid exposes as nothing but braggadocio the AFP’s claim of wiping out the NPA in Eastern Visayas this year,” Rosal said. “For the past several years now, the government’s armed forces have been intensifying military operations and brutalizing the masses in the region in the course of implementing the antipeople Oplan Bantay Laya. Instead of stemming the growth of the revolutionary forces, however, the AFP’s operations and fascist atrocities have only further fueled the people’s revolutionary struggle.”
“The US-Arroyo regime’s Oplan Bantay Laya 2 has so far been a complete failure, as evidenced by even the AFP’s own internal evaluation of its first year of implementation. Its failures will multiply in the succeeding years, as the NPA steps up people’s war,” said Rosal. “The reactionary and puppet regime and its mercenary, fascist armed forces are paper tigers that now bare their fangs but will eventually be defeated and torn to pieces by the revolutionary forces and the people.”
The CPP spokesperson said that, unless attacked, the NPA will exercise unilateral military restraint on the eve and day of Christmas and the New Year “in deference to people’s traditions and customs during these holidays,” but will resume tactical offensives against the US-Arroyo regime and its fascist armed forces immediately afterwards.
